A research team led by Professor Hongzhe Sun from the Department of Chemistry at The University of Hong Kong, in collaboration with Dr Pak-Leung Ho, discovered that silver nitrate can re-sensitise colistin against multidrug-resistant superbugs. This discovery offers a promising strategy to overcome antimicrobial resistance in the post-antibiotic era. The study, an extension of their past research, was published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America (PNAS).
