HKUMed research examines how Hong Kong managed first wave of COVID-19 without resorting to complete lockdown

Abstract

A study by the University of Hong Kong (HKUMed) shows that Hong Kong successfully controlled the spread of COVID-19 with less drastic measures compared to other countries. These measures included border entry restrictions, quarantine and isolation of cases and contacts, social distancing, and extensive surveillance for infections. As of March 31, 2020, the city had 715 confirmed cases and 4 deaths. The research suggests that maintaining these measures could significantly reduce the impact of a local COVID-19 epidemic.
