HKUMed identifies home as the primary route of COVID-19 transmission among Hong Kong children and adolescents, calls for action on their psychosocial well-being due to the pandemic and school closure

Abstract

A research team from HKUMed found that home is the primary route of COVID-19 transmission among Hong Kong children and adolescents. The study surveyed 397 children and adolescents, with nearly all domestically infected cases having family members in the same household also infected. The researchers also found that childrens psychosocial well-being is prone to adverse effects due to prolonged school closure, with increased hyperactivity symptoms and parental stress levels. The team suggests that eligible adults should get vaccinated to protect children and that more caution is needed when planning school closures in the future.
