Professors Leo Poon and Dr Hui Ling Yen, from the School of Public Health at the University of Hong Kong, discuss their experience in tackling the Delta wave caused by imported hamsters in January 2022. They introduce colleagues who have used laboratory techniques to help with the outbreak investigation, including Mr. Choi who visited the pet shop, Samuel who handled the genetic testing of samples, Louis who performed a surrogate virus neutralizing test, and Alonso who conducted gene sequencing. Their research findings helped identify the source of the outbreak and prevent further transmission.
