#askHKUMed on COVID-19: Is the coronavirus an airborne disease?
Description
Dr Siddarth Sridhar from the Department of Microbiology at HKUMed explains that COVID-19 is primarily spread through droplets of various sizes released from our nose and mouth. The virus is mostly transmitted by medium to large-sized respiratory droplets that sink to the ground within one to two meters. Airborne transmission of COVID-19 may occasionally occur but is likely to be very rare. Social distancing, wearing a face mask, and hand hygiene remain the most important methods to prevent acquiring COVID-19.
